Restricted Section Books are rare. You can only earn them from monthly Brilliant Fantastic Flora and Fauna Events, and, currently, you can only earn 15 Restricted Section Books for each Brilliant Event. At the current rate, active players can earn a maximum of 15 Restricted Section Books per month.

The Auror Skill Tree requires 115 Restricted Section Books to fully unlock every node.

The Magizoologist Skill Tree requires 115 Restricted Section Books to fully unlock every node.

The Professor Skill Tree requires a whopping 223 Restricted Section Books to fully unlock every node!

Here, we look at Skill Tree Nodes that require Restricted Section Books and discuss the most valuable Restricted Section Nodes.

Auror Skill Tree

The current Auror Skill Tree requires a total of 115 Restricted Section Books to fully unlock every node. A player can collect 115 Restricted Section Books after at least 8 months of continuous gameplay if Niantic continues to release Brilliant Events once every month. The most valuable Auror nodes unlocked using Restricted Section Books are the Confusion Hex and the Weakening Hex nodes.

A fully powered Confusion Hex increases Defence Breach against an enemy by 60%, decreases an enemy’s Defence by 60%, and decreases the enemy’s chance to dodge by 60% for 1 Focus. This is far more effective than a fully powered Weakening Hex, which merely decreases an enemy’s attack damage by 50% for 1 Focus. However, since the Confusion Hex nodes are more expensive to unlock than the Weakening Hex nodes, most Aurors may want to first power up their Weakening Hex. In addition, Aurors cannot access one of the Confusion Hex nodes until they first unlocking a Weaking Hex node.

Magizoologist Skill Tree

The current Magizoologist Skill Tree requires a total of 115 Restricted Section Books to fully unlock every node. A player can collect 115 Restricted Section Books after at least 8 months of continuous gameplay if Niantic continues to release Brilliant Events once every month. The most valuable Offensive Magizoologist nodes unlocked using Restricted Section Books are the Become the Beast and A Bird in the Hand nodes. The most valuable Support Magizoologist nodes unlocked using Restricted Section Books are the Revive and Bravery Charm nodes.

A Magizoologist with Become the Beast and A Bird in the Hand can increase their power output by +40 and their Defence by 15%, so long as their Focus remains above 5. While a 15% increase in Defence does not seem like much, Magizoologists have more Stamina than the other two Professions, which makes every increase in Defence that much more effective.

A fully powered Revive Charm revives an ally with 100% of their health for only 1 Focus. A fully powered Bravery Charm increases an ally’s power by 150% for a whopping 7 Focus. Support buffs like Bravery Charm last the entire battle, even if a teammate is knocked out. This combination can turn any teammate into a powerhouse.

Professor Skill Tree

The current Professor Skill Tree requires a total of 223 Restricted Section Books to fully unlock every node. A player can collect 223 Restricted Section Books after at least 15 months of continuous gameplay if Niantic continues to release Brilliant Events once every month. The most valuable Professor Restricted Section nodes are the Deterioration Hex nodes, followed closely by the Confidence node that gives a Professor access to +2 additional Initial Focus.

The Deterioration Hex Charm was, unfortunately, nerfed by Niantic on June 27, 2019, so that it now does 50% of the damage it did before. Even though Niantic weakened the spell by half, Deterioration Hex remains the most powerful damage-dealing spell in the game–doing 40 damage every turn when fully powered. The Confidence buff node on the left side of the tree that requires 15 Restricted Section Books is also important, not so much for the increase to Defence, but because unlocking that node allows Professors to increase their Initial Focus by +2. This allows Professors to cast a Protection Charm on themselves, or an ally, immediately, which will last the entire duration of a Fortress Challenge–even if that wizard is knocked out.

Professors are dynamic characters that can also unlock a bevy of Offensive or Support nodes. After fully upgrading Deterioration Hex and unlocking the Confidence buff, Professors can concentrate their efforts on improving the Offensive or Support strengths.

Professors that prefer to play Offensively will want to eventually power up their Protection Charm and their passive Strength in Numbers and Restricted Section buffs, followed by their Sparring Specifics, Teamwork Makes the Dream Work, and On Sabbatical buffs.

A fully powered Protection Charm will increase the Protection Charm’s Defence to 30%. When a Professor with the Confidence buff (see above) casts this charm on themselves, their Defence increases by 36%. Also, since Professors will almost always have a Deterioration Hex cast on their enemies, the Restricted Section Buff will increase their Defence to 42%. Lastly, since Professors should always have a Protection Charm cast on themselves, they can enjoy +5 Power increase from the Strength in Numbers buff.

When teammates also buff the Professor, the Professor enjoys an additional +12 Power increase from the Teamwork Makes the Dream Work buff, increasing the total buff to +17.

When teammates also Hex the Professor’s enemy, the Professor enjoys an additional +9% Defence from the Sparring Specifics buff, increasing the total buff to 45%.

When the Professor’s enemy has three Hexes, the On Sabbatical buff increases the Professor’s Power by another +12, increasing the total buff to +29.

Professors that prefer to Support Teams in Fortress Chambers will want to power up their Proficiency Charm.

A fully powered Proficiency Charm increases the Proficiency of all other teammates by 44% for seven Focus. Proficiency is a Profession’s advantage over enemies of certain types (e.g. Professors have an advantage over Oddities).
